Q. Can Ontario Savings Bonds be sold? If so, how?
A.

Yes. OSBs can be sold through an investment dealer at their current market price. In order to do so, an account with that investment dealer must first be established and a commission for the investment dealer may apply.

OSBs can also be sold to other individuals. Once the terms of the transaction have been agreed upon, a Transfer Form PDF File must be completed. The Transfer form must be signed by the registered owner exactly as it appears on the face of the OSB certificate (if there is more than one bondholder, each bondholder must sign), with a Signature Guarantee stamp affixed by a Canadian chartered bank, trust company, credit union, caisses populaires, or investment dealer, satisfactory to the Registrar, Computershare and the Province. The OSB certificate must be surrendered to the Registrar in person or by mail for re-registration into the name of the new Registered Owner.

 
Q. Can an Ontario Savings Bond be re-registered from one name to another?
A.

Yes. Ontario Savings Bonds are fully transferable. In order to do so, the bondholder or an authorized representative, must complete a Transfer Form PDF File. The Transfer form must be signed by the registered owner(s) exactly as it appears on the face of the OSB certificate (if there is more than one bondholder, each bondholder must sign), with a Signature Guarantee stamp affixed by a Canadian chartered bank, trust company, credit union, caisses populaires, or investment dealer, satisfactory to the Registrar and the Province. The OSB certificate must be surrendered to the Registrar in person or by mail for re-registration into the name of the new Registered Owner. Transfers are not permitted during the 15 days immediately preceding any Redemption Date.

 
Q. Can a name be added to the registration of an Ontario Savings Bond?
A.

Yes. In order to do so, the bondholder or an authorized representative, must complete a Transfer Form. PDF File The Transfer form must be signed by the registered owner(s) exactly as it appears on the face of the OSB certificate (if there is more than one bondholder, each bondholder must sign), with a Signature Guarantee stamp affixed by a Canadian chartered bank, trust company, credit union, caisses populaires, or investment dealer, satisfactory to the Registrar and the Province. The OSB certificate must be surrendered to the Registrar, Computershare, in person or by mail in order to add the name of another Registered Owner. Additions are not permitted during the 15 days immediately preceding any Redemption Date.

 
Q. Is there a fee for transferring an Ontario Savings Bond?
A.

No. There is no fee for transferring OSBs within the normal 72-hour transfer process. If a transfer is required in less time, a rush fee will apply. Transfers are not permitted during the 15 days immediately preceding any Redemption Date.
